Kangbao South Sea Ecological Wetland Park

The South Sea Ecological Wetland Park is located 1.3 kilometers south of the main urban area of Kangbao County. It is the wetland park closest to a county seat in the entire province, featuring a unique geographical location. The park covers a total area of 368.1 hectares, of which the wetland area is 183 hectares, accounting for 49.7% of the total park area; the water surface area is 141.3 hectares, accounting for 77.2% of the wetland area. The deepest part of the lake is about 3 meters.

The park has a well-preserved ecosystem and abundant wildlife resources. There are 159 species of wild plants, belonging to 32 families, 105 genera, with representative plants including herbaceous species such as plantain, iris, and reeds. There are 168 species of terrestrial vertebrates, belonging to 4 classes, 21 orders, 50 families, and 99 genera, among which there are 138 bird species, belonging to 14 orders, 36 families, and 76 genera, accounting for 11.6% of the total number of bird species in China (1,186 species).

Among the birds alone, there are 3 species under national first-class protection, such as the black stork and the great bustard, and 28 species under national second-class protection, such as the tundra swan, Chinese egret, and steppe eagle, accounting for 18.5% of the total number of terrestrial vertebrates in the reserve.

Especially noteworthy is the small island in the center of the lake, which provides an ideal habitat and breeding ground for birds. Every year from late autumn to early winter, thousands of white swans come here to stay for up to a month. Throughout the year, the area is alive with the sight of geese soaring, ducks floating, swallows chirping, sparrows singing, gulls and egrets flying gracefully, and mandarin ducks playing in the water—creating a beautiful and harmonious natural scene.
