Chairman Mao Memorial Hall in Changge City

The Chairman Mao Memorial Hall in Changge City is a national AA-level tourist attraction, a cultural relics protection unit of Xuchang City, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.

The Chairman Mao Inspection Memorial Hall in Changge City is located on the western section of Shicha Road in downtown Changge, covering an area of one mu with an exhibition space of over 100 square meters. The hall displays precious photographic materials documenting Chairman Mao’s inspection tour of Changge. In April 2004, it was named a Youth Patriotic Education Base of Changge City. In December 2004, it was designated as a Patriotic Education Base of Xuchang City. In June 2009, it was announced as a cultural relics protection unit of Xuchang City. In December 2011, it was rated as a national AA-level scenic spot. In July 2016, it was named a Party History Education Base of Xuchang City.

In 1968, to commemorate Chairman Mao’s inspection of Changge, upon the request of the Changge County Revolutionary Committee to the Xuchang Regional Revolutionary Committee and following approval, it was decided to build the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall at Zongzhai Village (renamed Baqi Village on August 7, 1968), Zhushang Commune, Heshangqiao (now part of Changge County), where Chairman Mao had stayed during his inspection. Construction began in July 1968, and the memorial hall was officially opened on August 7 of the same year. Due to limitations at the time, the construction standards were relatively low. In 1990, the memorial hall was rebuilt on the original site. In 2013, the exhibition content was redesigned and updated, providing a general introduction to Chairman Mao’s glorious life and his great contributions to the Chinese revolution, as well as a detailed account of his inspection visit to Changge. After the renovation, the memorial hall became more visitor-friendly. According to incomplete statistics, several million people have visited the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall over the decades.

Opening Hours: Open Monday to Friday. From April to October, opening hours are

9:00–18:00;

from November to March, opening hours are 9:00–16:00.

Changshe Road Subdistrict: Changshe Road Subdistrict Office was established on December 17, 1995, following the conversion of Changge County into a city and subsequent urban district adjustments, approved by the Henan Provincial Department of Civil Affairs and officially formed under the notice issued by the People’s Government of Changge City.
