【The Study Place of General Yang Jingyu】 Yang Jingyu was originally named Ma Shangde and came from Liwan Village, Queshan County, Henan Province. In 1923, after graduating from Queshan Higher Primary School, he went to study at the "First Provincial Industrial School of Henan" in the provincial capital Kaifeng, now the Second Middle School at Beidaomen. Two essays written by Ma Shangde during his time at the school are preserved there. The titles are “Reflections on the Return of Disaster Victims from the War Zone” and “A Letter to a Friend on Methods of Study.” The handwriting in the articles is clear and vigorous, making them extremely valuable revolutionary relics. The originals were later moved to the Northeast Martyrs Memorial Hall.

Yang Jingyu (1905–1940), originally named Ma Shangde and also known as Zhang Guanyi, with the courtesy name Runsheng and the art name Jisheng, was born in February 1905 (the 31st year of the Guangxu reign in the Qing Dynasty) into a farming family in Liwan Village, Queshan County, Henan Province. In 1923 (the 12th year of the Republic of China), he was admitted to the Industrial School in Kaifeng, Henan Province. In 1927 (the 16th year of the Republic of China), he joined the Communist Party of China. He once served as Secretary of the Henan-Southern Special Committee of the CPC and led the Queshan Peasant Uprising and the Liujiadian Uprising.
