The Kaifeng Songdu Woodblock New Year Painting Museum is the first thematic museum dedicated to woodblock New Year paintings in Henan Province. Located on Bookstore Street, a historic and cultural thoroughfare in Kaifeng City, the museum was founded by Mr. Ren Helin, one of the first representative inheritors of China’s intangible cultural heritage. Covering an area of 2,000 square meters, the museum features two exhibition halls and a multifunctional hall spanning nearly 800 square meters. It displays and houses a collection of over 1,500 woodblock New Year paintings from Kaifeng and across China, dating from the Ming Dynasty to the present. The exhibits offer visitors a comprehensive overview of the origin, emergence, evolution, and development of Kaifeng’s woodblock New Year paintings. They fully demonstrate that Kaifeng, an ancient capital of eight dynasties, holds the historical status as the birthplace of China’s woodblock New Year painting art. The museum also serves as a platform for the preservation and protection of China’s intangible cultural heritage. Through the establishment of master workshops in arts and crafts and traditional skills laboratories, it provides stronger support for preservation and inheritance, injecting new vitality into the development of New Year paintings. The museum has been awarded several honors and qualifications, including Henan Intangible Cultural Heritage Training Center, Henan Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall, Excellent Tourism Commodity R&D Enterprise, and Henan Small and Medium-sized Technology-based Enterprise.
