Tianwang Temple Shanjie Pagoda is located at the former site of Tianwang Temple in the backyard of the People’s Government of Hui County, Xinxiang City, Henan Province. It was built in the fourth year of the Zhiyuan era of the Yuan Dynasty (1267 AD) and is a seven-story hexagonal brick pagoda. The base of the pagoda is a Sumeru pedestal, with the main body standing 24.4 meters tall. The structure tapers upward layer by layer in a conical shape, and the entire surface is inlaid with carved stone Buddha statues, brackets, columns, and false windows. The eastern wall of the first story features a pagoda door, and a staircase inside the chamber leads to the top level. Each floor has a central chamber door that allows visitors to enjoy the view. Tianwang Temple Shanjie Pagoda is exquisitely designed and rich in ethnic architectural style. Its exterior also incorporates elements of Lamaist pagoda design and decorative art, making it a valuable relic for studying religious architecture and Buddhist history during the Yuan Dynasty. Nearby, there is an earthen platform about 5 meters high, over 30 meters long from east to west, and more than 20 meters long from north to south. Legend has it that this is the “Gongjiang Platform,” where Gong Jiang of the Western Zhou Dynasty remained chaste after her husband Gong Bo died young.
