Yangyuan Jade Emperor Pavilion

The Yangyuan Jade Emperor Pavilion is a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.

The Dongcheng Jade Emperor Pavilion is situated on Beijie Street in Dongcheng and is one of the best-preserved ancient structures in Yangyuan County. According to Zhao Kehua’s "Record of the Construction of the Jade Emperor Pavilion in Dongcheng," the pavilion was constructed in the 41st year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty (1562). On the 15th day of the first lunar month in the 7th year of the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1857), a fire broke out when a Taoist priest accidentally set the incense ablaze, completely destroying the three-tiered pavilion. One of the copper legs of the Jade Emperor statue was also melted and later repaired with plaster. The pavilion was rebuilt in the 8th year of the Tongzhi reign (1869), underwent renovation in 1984, and was designated as a provincial-level key cultural relic protection unit in 1993. A major restoration was carried out in 2004. This grand, solemn, beautifully designed, and exquisitely crafted ancient building has become a popular tourist attraction.
