Yangyuan Xiaochangliang Site

The Yangyuan Xiaochangliang Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.

The Xiaochangliang Site was excavated and discovered in 1978. It consists of early Pleistocene strata dating back 1.36 million years and ancient human remains, which shocked the world. Over 1,000 stone tools were unearthed at the site, making it of great significance for the study of early Paleolithic culture in North China and the exploration of the origins of the small tool tradition in the region. As the northernmost evidence of ancient human activity, the Xiaochangliang Site is engraved on the first step of the bronze walkway at Beijing’s China Millennium Monument.
