Yaotai Mountain Medicine King Cave

The Medicine King Cave is located halfway up Zhuyu Peak, facing the southeast. The cave is 10 meters high, 11 meters wide, and about 60 meters deep, with a naturally formed stone opening in the upper wall. Legend has it that Sun Simiao, the Medicine King of the Tang Dynasty, lived here while gathering herbs in this area. Inside the cave are stone statues of Sun Simiao and his two disciples, funded by local residents such as Li Tianyou during the Jin Dynasty.

At the cave entrance stands a thousand-year-old yew tree over 20 meters tall, with a thick trunk and lush foliage. There is also a “Forever Prohibited” stele erected in the eighth year of the Tongzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1869). Legend has it that ancient pilgrims who climbed to the peak to worship often gambled when staying overnight at the northern summit of Zhuyu Peak, leading to cases of people losing everything. To curb this gambling trend, the person in charge at the time erected this stele.

No separate ticket required. Included in the Yuntai Mountain Scenic Area ticket. Yuntai Mountain ticket: Peak season (March 1 – November 30): 210 RMB (150 RMB for entry + 60 RMB for internal transportation), Off-peak season (December 1 – end of February): 120 RMB (60 RMB for entry + 60 RMB for internal transportation).
