The traditional residences of Shuangmiao Village are located in Shuangmiao Village, Xicun Township, Xiuwu County. They date back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. These residences are among the seventh batch of cultural heritage sites protected by Henan Province.

Shuangmiao Village is located in the northwest of Xicun Township government, Xiuwu County, Jiaozuo City, Henan Province. It is about 15 kilometers from Xicun Township, about 40 kilometers from Xiuwu County, and roughly 30 kilometers from Jiaozuo City. The village has an irregular shape, with higher terrain in the north and lower in the south. The area in front of the village is relatively flat, and a tourist highway runs close to the southern edge of the village. The village is adjacent to the Qinglong Gorge Scenic Area, boasting an exceptionally superior natural environment with beautiful mountain and water views.

Shuangmiao Village is located at the southern foot of the Taihang Mountains. Its climate and hydrological conditions are suitable for tourism activities. The planned area has a warm temperate continental monsoon climate, characterized by abundant rainfall in summer, dry and cold winters, windy and sandy springs, cool and refreshing autumns, and large annual temperature variations. The coldest month is January, with an average monthly temperature of -1°C, while the hottest month is July, averaging 27.6°C. The annual average temperature is 14.4°C, with annual precipitation of 569.3 millimeters. The frost-free period is short, generally under 200 days. Annual precipitation ranges between 620–1000 millimeters, often concentrated and intense.

The village is nestled within over 19,000 acres of national public welfare forest, which is fully closed off for afforestation. The mountains are scattered with ancient trees such as pines, hawthorns, and walnuts that are over a hundred years old. Wild medicinal herbs such as wild rehmannia, wild chrysanthemums, and wild yams grow along roadsides and slopes. The ancient village follows the natural terrain, connected by winding stone paths, exuding a quaint, profound, ancient, and mysterious charm. The surrounding area blooms with flowers in three seasons, and the millennia-old terraced fields create a stunningly beautiful living environment, offering a leisurely experience reminiscent of “picking chrysanthemums beneath the eastern hedge and gazing upon the southern mountain in ease.”

Shuangmiao Village is a typical stone-built village deep in the Taihang Mountains. Whether it’s the stone houses or temples, the architectural craftsmanship is quite refined. Rows of stone houses are built against the mountains, following the contours of the land, and are nestled in lush greenery in a well-arranged and picturesque manner. The mountains, water, and architecture blend seamlessly, embodying the unity of man and nature, and are hailed as a “model of architecture.”

Historically, Shuangmiao Village was one of the thirteen passes connecting Fengtai County of Shanxi’s Zezhou with various counties of Huai Prefecture in Henan. It served as an impenetrable “gateway to all of Shanxi,” and held significant military importance as a “strategic chokepoint.” Guo Zaifen, a martial arts scholar honored by Emperor Xianfeng with a golden plaque inscribed “Heroic Grace Like Catkins,” once led his guards to defend this pass, protecting it from raids by bandits and marauders.
