Yehhekou Scenic Area

Yehhekou Scenic Area is a national water conservancy scenic area.

Yehhekou Reservoir is located in the middle and upper reaches of the Baihe River, just 40 kilometers from downtown Nanyang. The reservoir covers a water surface area of approximately 120 square kilometers, with a storage capacity of about 1.3 billion cubic meters. It serves multiple functions including flood control, irrigation, aquaculture, and tourism.

Yehhekou Reservoir lies in the hilly transition zone between the Funiu Mountains and the Nanyang Basin. The mountain ranges extending from the Funiu Mountains—such as Jiulishan, Qingshan, and Wuduoshan—rise prominently along the northwestern edge. Whether viewing from the lakeshore or by boat, visitors can enjoy the breathtaking sight of overlapping peaks. Along the shoreline, the continuous hills are dotted with mushroom-shaped mounds, while clusters of trees reflect in the vast, crystal-clear waters. The shimmering lake, set against a backdrop of blue skies, white clouds, and darting birds, creates a vibrant and picturesque scene. The reservoir is home to over 20 species of fish and more than 10 types of waterfowl, offering delightful sights of fish swimming and birds gliding low. The area features numerous reservoir branches, grasslands, peninsulas, and small islands, all providing ideal settings for scenic tourism development. The dam stretches over 3,600 meters, resembling a colossal dragon lying across the lake, exuding grandeur. The classical-style pavilions and corridors atop the dam offer excellent vantage points to take in the sweeping views of the reservoir. Towering pine and cypress trees encircle the dam, their lush green hues complementing the azure waters. Architectural structures such as spillways, power stations, and memorial pavilions, nestled within the greenery, are also worth admiring. Below the reservoir lies the expansive Nanyang Basin, and nearby attractions—including artificial fish ponds, the railway and highway bridges spanning the Baihe River, and the Lotus Pond Hot Springs—further enhance the area’s charm.

Blessed with a beautiful environment and strategic location, Yehhekou Reservoir now benefits from the nearby Yehhekou Thermal Power Plant, which has been completed with an investment of over 5 billion yuan. Leveraging its proximity to the city and major infrastructure projects, the reservoir has accelerated its tourism development in recent years. Relevant authorities have introduced a variety of pleasure boats and launched diverse water-based recreational activities. The landscaping around the dam has been upgraded, and tourism facilities such as hotels have been constructed. Efforts are also underway to develop peninsulas, shoals, and other areas, bringing the scenic tourism development into early maturity.

Take a bus from Nanyang Station bound for Yunyang/Yehhe to Yehhe and get off there.
