Xiaoguan Mosque

Xiaoguan Mosque is a cultural heritage protection unit of Nanzhao County.

Xiaoguan Mosque is located in Xiaoguan Neighborhood Committee, Yunyang Town.

It was among the first batch of county-level cultural heritage protection units announced by Nanzhao County in March 1980.

Xiaoguan Mosque stretches 64 meters from north to south, 56 meters from east to west, covering a total area of 3,584 square meters, and was originally built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. In October of the 20th year of the Republic of China (1931), except for the front gate, the men’s and women’s ablution rooms, and the north lecture hall, the rest of the structure was completely destroyed. In the 22nd year of the Republic of China (1933), the main prayer hall was rebuilt with funding support from Hui people in Zhengzhou, Luoyang, and Luohe; in the 28th year (1939), the south lecture hall was reconstructed; and in the 34th year (1945), the Moon-Viewing Tower was restored. The current structures of the mosque include one main gate, eight ablution rooms, five rooms each for the north and south lecture halls, three vaulted porches, three prayer halls, and one Moon-Viewing Tower. The wooden carvings on the eaves of all buildings are well preserved. The entire architectural complex features a rational layout, rigorous structure, elegant and distinctive design, and rich ethnic characteristics, making it renowned across southwestern Henan. The Moon-Viewing Tower is a double-eave hip-and-gable style building, approximately 11 meters high. Its rooftop supports, bracket sets (dougong), and overall architectural design are majestic and spectacular, with a uniquely striking style.
