Xiaoyuping Site

The Xiaoyuping Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Nanzhao County.

The Xiaoyuping Site is located in Xiaoyuping Natural Village, Banshanping Town,

This site was among the first batch of county-level cultural heritage protection units announced by Nanzhao County in March 1980.

The Xiaoyuping Site lies to the north of the Song River and to the south of a small hill, covering an area of approximately 100,000 square meters, with a cultural layer about 0.5–2 meters thick. The artifacts exposed on the ground mainly consist of pottery, of which red pottery accounts for about 70%, painted pottery about 10%, and gray pottery about 20%. Unearthed items include: nipple-patterned columnar tripod feet with nipple impressions, cylindrical tripod feet with fingernail or nipple patterns, red-bodied black-painted pottery bowls, rims of pottery basins, gray sandy pottery tripod rims, jar rims, crudely made pottery spinning whorls, lipped bowls, stone axes, and others. It is a site from the middle to late periods of the Yangshao Culture of the Neolithic Age.

Banshanping Town: Located at the southern foot of the Funiu Mountains and at the junction of Nanzhao, Neixiang, and Zhenping counties, Banshanping Town comprises 24 villages, 198 villager groups, 6,783 households, and a population of 24,682, including 23,905 agricultural residents. The town is home to three ethnic minorities—Mongolian, Manchu, and Hui—with a combined population of 830. In January 1995, Banshanping was officially approved by the provincial government to be restructured from a township into a town.
