The Site of the Soviet Government of Gushi County is a cultural relic protection unit of Henan Province and a classic red tourism destination.

The Site of the Soviet Government of Gushi County is located in Suokou Village, Wumiaoji Town, about 30 kilometers south of Gushi County.

In October 1930, the Gushi County Committee and the County Soviet Government moved from Songlinggang (now Daying Village, Chenlinzi Town) to Wangjialou in Suokou Village. Wangjialou is nestled against the mountains and near the water, and is divided into southern, central, and northern courtyards. The County Soviet Government was housed in the southern courtyard, the Revolutionary Tribunal in the central courtyard, and the Political Security Bureau in the northern courtyard. The County Soviet Government set up its base at Wangjialou, and nearby villages subsequently established various institutions including trade unions, women’s associations, an independent regiment, a military district command post, a gun manufacturing bureau, a Red Army hospital, an economic cooperative, and a Lenin Primary School. This continued until the Long March of the Fourth Front Red Army in October 1932, a period of over two years. Within these two years, the Gushi County Committee and the County Soviet Government administered eight districts and 45 townships, covering an area of over 100 li (approximately 50 kilometers) with a population exceeding 200,000. They led the people in overthrowing local tyrants, redistributing land, consolidating the red regime, establishing armed strongholds, recruiting soldiers, and achieving numerous successes. During several counter-encirclement struggles, over 56,000 locals joined the fight, and more than 35,000 brave individuals sacrificed their lives for the revolution. Tens of thousands of homes in the Soviet area were destroyed.

In June 1979, the Site of the Soviet Government of Gushi County was designated as a county-level key cultural relic protection unit. More than ten surviving offices, including those of the County Soviet Government, the Political Security Bureau, and the County Committee of the Communist Youth League, have been preserved and converted into a base for revolutionary tradition education. Every year, tens of thousands of Party members, cadres, and youths visit here for tours and tributes.

Suokou Village: Suokou Village is located in the central part of the mountainous region in the southern part of Wumiaoji Town, Gushi County. The village covers a total area of 11.7 square kilometers, with over 10,000 mu of forest land and more than 1,000 mu of mao yuan bamboo. It has 690 households and a population of 2,501, including three households with residents aged over 90, around 300 elderly between 65 and 90, approximately 1,500 people aged 18 to 65, and around 700 under the age of 18.
