The Wu Family Ancestral Shrine of Eminent Officials was built in the 47th year of the Qianlong era (1782) by Wu Qijun’s grandfather, Wu Yianrui, on Beihou Street in the city. It was completed the following year. The shrine’s regulations stipulate that only descendants of the Wu family who held the official title of “daifu” during their lifetime may be buried here after death. The shrine has five sections front to back, including the main hall, rear hall, incense hall, as well as auxiliary courtyards that serve the shrine. Currently, five bays of the main hall remain. The structure features blue bricks and gray tiles, with a wooden frame. The front porch is supported by square stone pillars. The hall is 4.5 meters high, 20 meters long, and 8 meters deep, covering an area of 160 square meters. Inside the shrine, there is an incense table holding memorial tablets and portraits of the Wu ancestors, making it a site where clan members worship their forebears.

Wu Qijun, a Qing Dynasty botanist (1789–1847). His courtesy names were Yuezhai, Jishen, and Jilan. He was from Gushi County, Henan Province. He was the top imperial scholar in the 22nd year of the Jiaqing era. He successively served as a compiler in the Hanlin Academy, educational commissioner in Jiangxi and Hubei, vice minister of the Ministry of War, and eventually became governor or provincial governor in Hunan, Hubei, Yunnan, Guizhou, Fujian, and Shanxi. Throughout his official travels, he developed a deep passion for botany. Wherever he went, he collected plant specimens, drew illustrations, and cultivated wild plants in his garden.
