Introduction: At the end of the Qin Dynasty, during the peasant uprising, Liu Bang, who would later become Emperor Gaozu of Han, had just pledged to rise in rebellion. While leading his followers on the road, they encountered a giant snake. Liu Bang bravely slew it, and the grass in the area where the snake was killed turned red. Later generations associated this event with the son of the Red Emperor slaying the son of the White Emperor to win the empire. The later-built Snake-Slaying Stele is said to reveal ghostly images of Liu Bang and Empress Lü under moonlight, adding a mystical aura to the legend of the snake slaying.
