Taiqiu Ecological Folk Culture Tourism Scenic Area

The Taiqiu Ecological Folk Culture Tourism Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Taiqiu Ecological Folk Culture Tourism Scenic Area is located in Taiqiu Town, Yongcheng City, Henan Province.

The scenic area is situated on the Huang-Huai Plain, 25 kilometers northwest of Yongcheng, and is separated to the west by Qiu Long Gou, a left-bank tributary of the Tuo River—the largest river in Yongcheng. Moreover, the area has a dense river network and experiences concentrated rainfall in summer. The terrain is flat, roughly rectangular, with soil composed of a mix of blue and sandy loam, earning it the nickname “Silver Taiqiu.”

During the Spring and Autumn Period, Taiqiu was established as a town; during the Western and Eastern Han Dynasties, it became the Jingqiu Marquisate; and during the Eastern Han Dynasty, Emperor Ming renamed it Taiqiu County. In 1960, the Taiqiu People’s Commune was established, which was changed to Taiqiu Township in 1982, and then upgraded to a town on December 12, 2007.

The scenic area is rich in talent and natural beauty, known as a land of abundance. Its “Eight Scenic Spots” are widely renowned. There are numerous historical sites and attractions, including Taiqiu Academy, Chen Temple’s Frosty Pines, Laojun Hall, the tomb of Chen Ping—who was the Prime Minister during the reign of Emperor Wen of the Western Han Dynasty—the tomb of Cao Bin, Duke of Lu from the Northern Song Dynasty, the martyrs’ cemetery from the Battle of Taiqiu during the Huaihai Campaign, the ruins of the old city wall of Taiqiu County, and the Wenguang Tree, all of which are famous far and wide.
