Tangyin Shuangshi Bridge

Shuangshi Bridge is located 15 kilometers east of Tangyin County, at the confluence of the Tang River and Yongtong River near Gaohan Village in today’s Caiyuan Town. It was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Tangyin County in 1978.

Both bridges are constructed from white stone and feature three arched spans. The Tang River Bridge is 25 meters long, 6 meters wide, and 3 meters high (above water level); the Yongtong Bridge is 25 meters long, 7 meters wide, and 3.5 meters high (above water level). The bridges are equipped with railings, some of which are partially missing. The distance between the two bridges is 22 meters, and the main arch keystones are adorned with carvings of water-absorbing beasts on both the upstream and downstream sides. The bridges are named Shuangshi (Double Stone) because they were built simultaneously, connected to each other. Shuangshi Bridge was constructed in the mid-Ming Dynasty, though the exact date is unknown.

The town administers 36 administrative villages, has a population of 51,000, and covers 89,000 mu of arable land. The area consists of equal thirds of hills, plains, and low-lying land. The Hetai Highway runs east-west through the town, providing very convenient transportation. It is a traditional agricultural hub.
