Yangkou Town is located on the southern shore of the Laizhou Bay in the Bohai Sea, at the mouth of the Xiaoqing River. It lies within the overlapping areas of the Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone and the Yellow River Delta High-Efficiency Ecological Economic Zone. It is a national key town, a nationally recognized environmentally beautiful township, a provincial-level civilized town, a provincial-level central town, a strong tourism town in Shandong, a model town for small-town construction in Shandong, one of the first pilot towns for economic development reform in Shandong, one of China’s six most beautiful wetlands, and one of Shandong’s top ten charming scenic spots. Binhai (Yangkou) boasts beautiful surroundings and simple folkways, earning the reputation of “a pearl on the shores of the Bohai Bay.” The area’s tourist attractions include exploring ancient sites at Tangtouying, strolling through the serene Qiqu Alley, visiting the Stone Tool Museum, climbing Mopan Mountain, worshiping at Tianfei Palace, seeing the site where Emperor Qin Shi Huang worshipped the sea, and taking a one-day sea tour.

The Xiaoqing River Estuary Eco-tourism Area features multiple rivers flowing into the sea, including the Xiaoqing River, Zhima River, and Laohe River. Due to the impact of the water systems in this region, it has formed a typical coastal estuarine wetland ecological environment consisting of water areas, tidal flats, reed marshes, wet meadows, and Spartina grasslands. The wetland is hailed as the “young wetland, paradise of rare birds,” a “global airport for birds,” the “hometown of the Oriental White Stork in China,” and “the youngest land of the Republic.” It is home to 1,524 species of wild animals, including more than 300 bird species, earning it the title “paradise of birds.” Rare bird species include 50 types such as swans and red-crowned cranes.

At the entrance of the winding Xiaoqing River to the south lies the Laohekou area, bordering the mouth of the Yellow River to the north. The area offers a blend of river-sea convergence, wetland ecology, petroleum industry, and coastal tidal flats. The numerous branching streams along the river form unique ecological tourism resources that rival the beauty of the Jiangnan region. The Xiaoqing River and the Yellow River converge and flow into the sea here, creating a spectacular sight of sea and river meeting. There is also a rare natural forest of twisted willows and tens of thousands of acres of planted locust tree forests. With 300,000 hectares of reed wetlands, tidal flats, and sea areas, it has been named one of “China’s Six Most Beautiful Wetlands” and one of “Shandong’s Top Ten Charming Scenic Spots.” It is a key supported project under the State Council-approved “Yellow River Delta High-Efficiency Ecological Economic Zone Development Plan” and “Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone Development Plan.” It represents the youngest, most intact, most typical, and most magnificent wetland ecosystem, and is praised as a “natural green oxygen bar.”
