Menglianggu Campaign Memorial Hall

The Menglianggu Campaign Memorial Hall is located in Duozhuang Town, Mengyin County, Linyi City, Shandong Province. In May 1947, under the command of Chen Yi and Su Yu, the East China Field Army fought fiercely and annihilated over 32,000 troops, including the elite Nationalist Reorganized 74th Division and parts of its reinforcement forces, in a single decisive battle at Menglianggu. This victory turned the tide of the war in East China and even the whole country.

The Menglianggu Campaign Memorial Hall consists of four parts: the memorial hall itself, the martyrs' cemetery, the battle site area, and the sculpture park. In 1954, the State Council allocated special funds to build the Menglianggu Martyrs' Cemetery, which became a national key protected revolutionary martyrs’ memorial building. The current Menglianggu Campaign Memorial Hall was reconstructed and opened in 2007, with a total construction area of 3,682 square meters. The hall is 19.47 meters high and shaped like two red triangular battle flags.

The Menglianggu Campaign Memorial Hall is situated atop Menglianggu Mountain within the Menglianggu Scenic Area. Covering an area of 5,000 square meters with a building area of 100 square meters, it was built in 1984 to commemorate the famous “Menglianggu Campaign.” In May 1947, under the command of Chen Yi and Su Yu, the East China Field Army wiped out the elite Nationalist Reorganized 74th Division on Menglianggu Mountain and killed its division commander, Zhang Lingfu. The battle made Menglianggu renowned both in China and abroad. The Menglianggu Campaign site is a provincial-level key cultural relics protection unit.

The Menglianggu Campaign Monument was erected in 1948. The white monument stands prominently atop Dagu Ding, reaching a height of 20 meters. Menglianggu, located along a vital transportation route, has been a strategic military stronghold throughout history.

The monument built on the mountain in 1984 to commemorate the Menglianggu Campaign stands 30 meters tall.

The memorial hall has been successively designated as one of China’s Top Ten Red Tourism Destinations, a National Patriotic Education Demonstration Base, and one of the nation’s 100 Classic Red Tourism Attractions. It has also been selected as a traditional and national defense education base by more than 30 institutions, including the National Defense University and the Academy of Military Science.
