Daqing Mountain Red Tourism Area
The Daqing Mountain Red Tourism Area is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.
Includes: the site of the breakout, the monument pavilion, the memorial square, and the site where martyr Cheng Ke sacrificed his life.
The site of the victorious breakout on Daqing Mountain is located in the mountain hollows of Lixinggou and Wutonggou at the western foothills of the main peak of Daqing Mountain, which was the main battlefield of the breakout. On November 30, 1941, our besieged agencies and logistics personnel, under the command of Zhou Chunquan, the president of the First Branch of the Counter-Japanese Military and Political University, and other school leaders, fought a brave and tenacious life-and-death battle against more than 10,000 well-equipped Japanese and puppet troops with inferior weapons, eventually breaking through the enemy's encirclement. The First Branch of the Counter-Japanese Military and Political University achieved a victory breakout of nearly 10,000 people at the cost of sacrificing just over 300 lives, preserving the leadership of the Shandong anti-Japanese armed forces and a large number of vital forces. The site where Cheng Ke sacrificed his life is an open area in front of a civilian house in Lixinggou, the main battlefield of the breakout, where a monument has been erected.
The Monument Pavilion of the Victorious Breakout on Daqing Mountain marks the breakthrough point where the encirclement was torn apart during the breakout battle. Most of the besieged personnel broke through the enemy’s encirclement from here and safely retreated to the depths of Mengshan Mountain. The monument and pavilion were built in November 1997. The pavilion is a hexagonal, upturned-eave antique-style structure. The monument stands 19.41 meters tall, facing south and backed by the north, situated in the center of the pavilion. The front of the monument is inscribed with the text “Monument of the Victorious Breakout on Daqing Mountain,” the organizations that erected it, and the date of erection, while the back is inscribed with an introduction to the breakout.
On May 11, 2000, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China designated the Daqing Mountain Revolutionary Memorial Site as a “National Youth Education Base.” On the flat ground below the left side of the pavilion, there is a stone tablet with an inscription written by General Secretary -.
The Memorial Square of the Victorious Breakout on Daqing Mountain is located to the upper left rear of the monument pavilion, running east-west. Construction began in July 2005, and the main works were completed in October 2006. The entire square covers a construction area of 178,000 square meters (approximately 50 acres). The square is divided into three sections from west to east, utilizing the existing elevation differences: the entrance square, the - Square (main square), and the monument square. Combined with grand staircases, it forms a progressive spatial sequence, creating a solemn and respectful atmosphere to commemorate the War of Resistance.
The entrance square is at the far west end, adjacent to the highway. In the center of the square stands a rectangular boulder, 12 meters long, 0.8 meters wide, 2 meters high, and weighing over 500 tons. The front of the boulder is inscribed with the name of the square, while the back bears the eight large characters “The People’s Heroes Live Forever” handwritten by Chairman Mao Zedong. A large parking lot is located on the right side of the square.
Climbing 58 marble steps from the entrance square leads to the main part of the memorial square—the - Square. This square is broad, magnificent, and imposing. On both sides of the main square are neatly arranged eight marble statues of revolutionary martyrs. On the north side, from east to west, they are: Zhou Chunquan, Yan Jiesan, Qiu -, and Cheng Ke; on the south side, from east to west, they are: Chen Ming, Wang Liren, Hans Shippe, and Xin Rui. At the eastern end of the - Square, on both sides below the monument, there are memorial halls; tree-lined rest areas are set up on both sides of the main square.
The Monument Square is located at the highest point to the east and is the climax of the entire square. In the center of the square stands a large monument, 19.41 meters high, with a deformed square column body. The front of the monument is inscribed with ten gilded characters “Monument of the Victorious Breakout on Daqing Mountain,” personally written by General - (former member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, and Minister of National Defense). A group of marble statues of revolutionary martyrs is placed on the monument base. Behind the monument, on the high ground, is the “Revolutionary Martyrs’ Tomb,” with two pavilions on each side.
The entire memorial square forms a unified whole along a single central axis. The ground of each square and the grand staircases are meticulously paved with marble, adding to the solemn and majestic atmosphere.
Birthplace of the “Yimeng Mountain Tune”
Main attractions include: the scenic archway, the tomb of Comrade Yuan Chenglong, head of the cultural troupe of the First Branch of the Counter-Japanese Military and Political University, the “Yimeng Mountain Tune” Monument, the memorial pavilion, cliff inscriptions, and the former site of the Second Printing House of the Masses Daily.
The scenic archway is located on the west side of Huangcaoguan, one of the four major passes of Mengshan Mountain. The archway is 14.8 meters high, 26 meters wide, and weighs about 580 tons. Its design and grandeur are unmatched in the province. It was completed in April 2005.
The tomb of Comrade Yuan Chenglong is located on the sunny slope on the north bank of the Xiaobai River in the west of Xiabai Stone House Village. On August 23, 2003, some of Comrade Yuan Chenglong’s ashes were interred here, and a tombstone was erected.
The birthplace of the “Yimeng Mountain Tune” is located at the eastern foot of Wanghai Tower, the third highest peak of Mengshan Mountain, in front of Shangbai Stone House Village. The area features beautiful mountains and clear waters, with pleasant scenery. On the granite boulder on the north bank of the small dam, there is an inscription by Comrade Yuan Chenglong: “Birthplace of the Yimeng Mountain Tune.” On another boulder, there is an inscription by Comrade Ran Ruoshan, lyricist of the “Yimeng Mountain Tune”: “Deeply Nostalgic for the Beautiful Yimeng Mountains.” Not far above these inscriptions, two stone tablets stand side by side: one has the “List of Members of the Cultural Troupe of the First Branch of the Counter-Japanese Military and Political University Stationed in Bai Stone House” and “Biography of Comrade Yuan Chenglong” on the front, and the “Biography of Comrade Li Lin, Composer of the Yimeng Mountain Tune” and the “Biography of Comrade Ran Ruoshan, Lyricist” on the back; the other has the widely sung “Yimeng Mountain Tune” on the front and the “Story of the Birth of the Yimeng Mountain Tune” on the back.
To the left of the two tablets is the “Yimeng Mountain Tune” Twin Pavilion, symbolizing that the song was co-created by its lyricist and composer. These commemorative facilities were all established in September 1999.
The former site of the Second Printing House of the Masses Daily is located within Shangbai Stone House Village, about thirty meters above the memorial pavilion. The printing house building has walls made of rough stones and is roofed with thatch. The printing and binding workshop consists of four rooms, and there are three additional rooms for typecasting. The site was restored in 2010.
The “Municipal Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit” stele is located on the south bank of the small dam. In February 2003, after the “Yimeng Mountain Tune” was designated as the city song of Linyi, the Linyi Municipal People’s Government erected this stele in November 2003.
Xuezhuang Town: Xuezhuang Town is located in the northeastern part of Feixian County, covering a total area of 156.3 square kilometers, with jurisdiction over 58 administrative villages and a population of 54,000. In 2002, it achieved a gross domestic product of 320 million yuan, with an average per capita income of 2,990 yuan for farmers. It has been successively named a “National Top 100 Forestation and Greening Township,” “China’s Chestnut Hometown,” “National Youth Education Base,” and “Provincial New-Type Rural Construction Town.”
