Feixian Tashan Forest Park

Feixian Tashan Forest Park is the same scenic area as the Mengshan Tianmeng Scenic Area in Feixian County. Located on the sunny side of Mount Meng within Feixian County, Tashan Forest Park features majestic, steep, and rugged mountain terrain with deep valleys, and is hailed as the “Second to Mount Tai” and a sacred mountain. It is recognized as a National Geopark, Forest Park, and Scenic Area of Shandong Province.

The park spans 203 square kilometers and boasts breathtaking natural landscapes along with profound cultural heritage. The Yuzhu Peak, the second highest peak of Mount Meng at an elevation of 1,073 meters, soars into the clouds; the Wanghai Tower at 1,001 meters is the best spot in the Mengshan range to view the East Sea and watch the sunrise, earning it the nickname “Little Mount Tai.” The Huluya Cliff, rugged and steep with sheer rock faces up to 100 meters high, is awe-inspiring and dizzying; the “Century-old Rock-Carved Water Channel” is truly remarkable.

The park is densely forested with abundant plant resources, and its forest coverage rate reaches 95%, making it a veritable “natural zoo and botanical garden.” It is home to some of the earliest artificially planted Japanese larch and black pine in China, and is considered the birthplace of scientific afforestation in the country. It has been designated as a “Youth Science Education Base” and a “Teaching Practice Base.” The annual Youth Military Summer Camp provides an ideal environment for young people to connect with nature, build resilience, improve self-reliance, and receive education on red traditions.

The area is rich in cultural landmarks, offering a transcendent experience. Legend has it that immortals once cultivated themselves and refined elixirs here, monks chanted scriptures and worshipped Buddha, and literati visited to admire the scenery and left behind timeless poetry. In 1894, German missionaries built a three-story European-style building here, which stands serene and elegant amidst the greenery—unique in style and remarkably well-preserved despite a century of weathering. There are also the unique Ming Dynasty-era Jade Emperor Temple and Mengshan Temple in Mount Meng. During festivals such as Spring Festival, Qingming, and Mid-Autumn, worshippers flock to the mountain to pray. This place is known as the “Three Religions Under One Mountain”—Catholicism, Taoism, and Buddhism—making it a true sacred site of religious culture.
