Wenchang Lake Urban Agriculture Eco-Expo Park

Wenchang Lake Urban Agriculture Eco-Expo Park is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Wenchang Lake Urban Agriculture Eco-Expo Park in Zibo City was established in June 2008. Located on the western shore of Wenchang Lake in Zibo, it is adjacent to Zhengyang Road and Huanhu Road, with direct access to the Jiqing Expressway, Binbo Expressway, and the Jiqing Electrified High-Speed Railway. It offers convenient transportation, beautiful surroundings, picturesque lakes and mountains, a pleasant landscape, vast lake surfaces, and shimmering blue waters. The total planned greening area is 1,100 mu, with a projected total investment of 280 million yuan. Designed and constructed according to the national "AAAAA" scenic area standards, it achieved the status of a "AA"-level tourist attraction by 2012. It has been honored with titles such as "Top Ten Urban Agricultural Parks in the City," "Municipal Organic Ecological Circular Agriculture Demonstration Park," "Provincial and Municipal Science Education Base," and "Municipal Agricultural Industrialization Leading Enterprise." It is the only comprehensive urban agriculture eco-expo park in the Wenchang Lake Tourist Resort, integrating ecological agriculture, tourism, fruit picking experiences, leisure vacations, dining, and entertainment.

The agriculture eco-expo park currently features a specialty animal husbandry breeding area, an agricultural sightseeing and fruit picking area, an animal viewing area, an equestrian experience and entertainment area, a farm-style ecological dining area, 13 rockeries, waterfalls, pavilions, and more. It also includes two high-standard winter greenhouse picking greenhouses, two greenhouses for viewing southern flowers and plants such as osmanthus, as well as a high-quality fish fishing area and an agricultural museum.

(1) Specialty Animal Husbandry Breeding Area

This area mainly utilizes corn stalk silage to raise premium beef cattle such as Simmental, meat donkeys, sika deer, as well as free-range chickens and geese. Livestock manure is used to produce biogas, and the organic biogas residue and liquid are supplied as pollution-free organic fertilizer to the ecological park’s planting base.

(2) Agricultural Sightseeing and Fruit Picking Area

There are 23 organic fruit picking gardens, including walnut orchards, peach orchards, pear orchards, cherry orchards, persimmon orchards, winter greenhouse picking gardens, and grape vineyards. Among them, the grape vineyard features a grape arbor with over 20 varieties spanning more than 5,000 meters. There are also over 30 mu of pollution-free green vegetables, 80 mu of tea plantations, and a nearly 1,000-square-meter underground wine cellar along with a winery. These facilities enable deep processing of self-sourced raw materials and wine storage. Visitors can enjoy nature, admire the seasonal scenery, and personally experience the joy of fruit picking and tasting various fruits.

(3) Animal Viewing Area

The animal viewing area currently raises over 30 species of wild animals for viewing, including Siberian tigers, leopards, black bears, camels, and monkeys. Visitors can observe and learn about the characteristics, habits, and origins of different animals, as well as enjoy entertainment programs such as tigers hunting live chickens.

(4) Equestrian Experience and Entertainment Area

With an investment of over 28 million yuan, it has established the province’s first "Tianji Equestrian Club." It has introduced over 20 internationally standard "warm-blooded" and "thoroughbred" racehorses from Germany, the Netherlands, Arabia, and Russia, as well as over 30 Mongolian horses, offering urban and rural residents opportunities for experience, competition, and viewing.

(5) Osmanthus Viewing Area

The area has planted nearly 200 potted osmanthus plants, including century-old golden osmanthus, silver osmanthus, four-season osmanthus, and red osmanthus, along with over 130 potted southern plants such as large banyan trees, bischofia trees, and palm trees. Together, they form a corridor of northern and southern flowering plants, allowing visitors to admire and learn about the characteristics, habits, origins, and care methods of different plants.

(6) Agricultural Museum

The museum has collected nearly 10,000 items, including ancient horse-drawn carts, water wheels, wheelbarrows, farming tools from various eras, as well as over 20 types of items such as stone mills and stone rollers. These are available for visitors to learn about the development of agriculture in China and to understand agricultural farming techniques and their historical evolution.
