Mengshan Lake Lotus Ecological Park is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

Zibo Mengshan Lake Lotus Ecological Park is situated in Mengshui Town within the FanYang River Wetland, an area of stunning scenery and unique ecological environment. It was rated as a AA-level tourist attraction in 2009. The park covers a green area of over 200 acres with a forest coverage rate of more than 80%. The scenic area is part of Zibo’s Wenchang Lake ecological and circular agricultural zone, focusing on the production of organic lotus roots, the cultivation of ornamental lotus flowers, and eco-agricultural tourism. Visitors to the park can not only enjoy the natural ecological environment but also learn about modern agricultural practices, experience the tranquil and delicate charm of southern-style scenery with “small bridges over flowing streams by quaint houses,” and immerse themselves in the rich local customs—creating a “Jiangnan in the North” landscape that connects people with water, ecology, and life. Starting every May, visitors flock here to admire the boundless beauty, learn about the achievements of high-tech and efficient agriculture, and taste the park’s homegrown mushrooms, vegetables, fish, and crabs, presenting a vibrant picture of rural farming and leisure.

Zibo Mengshan Lake Lotus Ecological Park was invested in and is managed by Zibo Mengshan Lake Straw Lotus Cultivation Co., Ltd. The tourist park officially opened in March 2007 to domestic and international visitors, attracting tourists, photography enthusiasts, media, government departments, and people from all walks of life for inspection, sightseeing, and media coverage. The enterprise not only achieves outstanding performance but also increases farmers’ income by nearly 2 million yuan annually through land transfer and comprehensive straw utilization. It provides over 100 jobs for migrant workers and, through the Zibo Zhoucun Xuling Straw Lotus Cultivation Professional Cooperative, has helped surrounding communities develop straw lotus cultivation on over 3,000 acres. This has not only transformed barren hills and low-yield farmland but also fostered a green industry of straw lotus cultivation.

Zibo Mengshan Lake Lotus Ecological Park was established in 2006. Its main project involves the cultivation, production management, scientific research, and promotion of shallow-water lotus roots using its proprietary patented technology—straw carbon dioxide lotus cultivation. The products have obtained national AA-grade green food and organic food certifications, with significant improvements in both yield and quality. Using this technology, the average yield reaches around 4,000 kilograms of fresh lotus roots per acre, and each acre of lotus pond can convert and utilize straw from approximately 20 acres of farmland. This achieves a virtuous cycle of ecological agriculture, delivering remarkable economic, social, and ecological benefits. The park has been recognized as a leading enterprise in Zibo’s agricultural industrialization, and its “Mengshan Lake” brand fresh lotus roots have been named among Zibo’s top-quality vegetables. CCTV’s Agricultural Science Channel conducted exclusive interviews on the straw carbon dioxide lotus cultivation technology in 2009 and 2010, and promoted it nationwide.

In recent years, the park has actively responded to the municipal government’s call for the development of ecological circular agriculture and urban agriculture. It has carefully studied and planned high-tech solutions and supporting infrastructure for leisure and sightseeing agriculture, establishing a demonstration zone for agricultural production, tourism, and science education. The zone centers around lotus and lotus roots, showcases high-yield and high-quality agricultural products, and innovates with ecological leisure culture. The park plans to spend three years creating the most comprehensive collection of lotus and water lily varieties in China, along with one of the country’s most advanced aquatic and hydrophyte ecological cycling technologies.
