Zhoucun Ancient Street Ticket Office Exhibition Hall

The Ticket Office Exhibition Hall is located within the ancient city of Zhoucun in Zibo’s Zhoucun District and is one of the attractions included in the joint ticket. It features many interesting exhibits.

During the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty, Shanxi ticket offices began purchasing land and setting up branches in Zhoucun. The first branch of Qiao Zhiyong in Zhoucun still retains its original appearance.

In the age of limited communication, money shops and banks naturally developed their own management systems. According to the guide, in the past, no incorrect currency exchanges ever occurred at Zhoucun’s money shops, thanks to their strict anti-counterfeiting and secret code management systems.

The ancient coin “唯吾知足” (Only I Know Contentment) inlaid on the floor of the money shop. Originating in the Han Dynasty, this was a type of “spending coin” — a coin not meant for actual circulation. Since all four characters share the same central square “mouth” radical, it is also known as a “borrowed-mouth coin.”
