Xiaopang Ruins

The Xiaopang Ruins are a protected cultural heritage site of Shandong Province.

The Xiaopang Ruins are located east of Xiaopang Village, about five li southwest of Tianzhuang Town, on a platform 2–3 meters above the ground. The site stretches up to 245 meters from east to west and 135 meters from north to south, covering an area of 24,050 square meters. The surface is cultivated farmland belonging to Xiaopang Village and Dapang Village.

The site has multiple layers of historical culture. The cultural layer is generally 1–2 meters deep, with some reaching over 4 meters. A cultural relics survey in 1973 collected more than 20 artifacts unearthed from the site. These include late Neolithic stone shovels and black pottery jars; Shang Dynasty pottery li tripods; Zhou Dynasty pottery dou stems, pottery stands, gray pottery pots, wide-mouthed zun rims, as well as fragments of black, red, and sandy gray pottery; Qin and Han Dynasty bronze swords, bronze bells, and mystical beast mirrors; and artifacts from the Yuan Dynasty. The site also features multiple patches of ash soil, fired red soil, and rammed earth layers.

To the east of the center of the ruins lies an ancient tomb cluster. In 1978, a burial tomb was discovered in a cliff section. The deceased was a male child, lying with the head facing east, enclosed within three nested gray and red pottery vessels. It has been confirmed as a Shang Dynasty tomb. In 1977, the site was designated as a provincial-level key cultural relics protection unit.
