Tomb and Memorial Site of Liu Wansu

The Tomb and Memorial Site of Liu Wansu is a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.

The tomb of Liu Wansu is located to the south of Houliushou Village in Xijiuji Township, about 10 kilometers southeast of Hejian City. The "Tomb and Memorial Site of Liu Wansu" features an above-ground earthen mound encased in bricks, shaped like a hexagonal jujube-seed tower with precisely jointed bricks, standing approximately 5 meters tall. Its top has a spherical structure, tapering at both the base and the top, with the maximum diameter at the middle being about 2 meters. The site of Liu Wansu’s memorial hall is a north-high-south-low sloping terrace, measuring 100 meters from north to south and 60 meters from east to west. The northern side is about 4 meters high, while the southern side is slightly over 1 meter above ground level. Between 1966 and 1967, the outer brick casing of the mound was removed and the mound itself was leveled, but the burial chamber was not excavated. Later, local residents funded the reconstruction of a cement-and-brick tomb in its original form. Nowadays, tens of thousands of people from across the country spontaneously gather here every year on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month to commemorate the famous physician Liu Wansu.

On September 7, 1956, it was designated as one of the "First Batch of Cultural Relics and Historic Sites Protection Units of Hebei Province" by the former People's Committee of Hebei Province. On July 23, 1982, "Liu Wansu’s Tomb" was re-designated as a "Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit of Hebei Province" by the People's Government of Hebei Province.
