Wulizhong Site

The Wulizhong Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Wulizhong Site is located 30 meters north of Wulizhong Village in the southwestern part of the urban area. The mound is platform-shaped, measuring 83 meters from east to west, 31 meters from north to south, and standing 2.3 meters high, resembling a small hill. Artifacts unearthed include Neolithic stone axes and stone sickles; Shang and Zhou dynasty relics such as bone awls, deer antlers, oracle bones, pottery spinning whorls, and li tripod feet; as well as Han dynasty bricks and Tang dynasty jars. The western and southern sides of the site have exposed Han dynasty brick tomb walls.

After investigation by the archaeological team of the Shandong Academy of Social Sciences, the area where the stone axes and sickles were found has been identified as a Longshan culture site.

The development and remains of the site have broken through the boundaries of the Neolithic cultural distribution in Shandong Province, broadening our understanding of material civilization in primitive society and holding certain value for the study of local history. In 1956, it was declared as one of the first batch of cultural relic protection units in Leling County by the People's Committee of Shandong Province. On February 23, 1977, it was announced as a provincial-level key cultural relic protection unit.
