Site of the Ancient Xianping City

The site of the ancient Xianping City was originally the town of Xianping, located in Jiuleling Village, Zhengdian Town, 50 li southwest of the city. The site measures 500 meters in both length and width. During the Tang and Song dynasties, the county seat was situated south of the ancient Yellow River (the Gejin River). In 1069 (the second year of the Xining era of the Song Dynasty), the river burst its banks, prompting an emergency relocation here and the hasty construction of a new city. The city had three gates but no southern gate. Within the original city walls, there remains a high mound to this day, which is the site of the "Cui Xian Ting" (Pavilion of Gathering Virtuous Scholars), where Lü Yihao, the deputy prime minister of the Southern Song Dynasty, once studied.

Zhang Miao, a native of the Qing Dynasty, wrote a poem titled “Lü the Prime Minister’s ‘Pavilion of Gathering Virtuous Scholars’.” By the Yuan Dynasty, Pingzhang Yu Qian had renovated the city walls and built a “Flower Viewing Platform” in the northern suburbs (now the old Jiuleling Village), which stood more than ten feet high and could accommodate a hundred people. It served as a place for flower viewing and feasting. The poem “Spring Grass at the Yuan Terrace” by Zhang Pengnan, a native of the Ming Dynasty, describes this site. In 1369 (the second year of the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty), the county magistrate He Heng relocated the seat to Fuping Town (now the county seat) on the grounds that the city site was low-lying. The city walls, pavilions, and terraces were subsequently abandoned.

Zhengdian Town: Located in the southern part of Laoling City, Zhengdian Town borders Yangxin County to the east, Yinxiang Town of Shanghe County to the south, Hualou Town and Deping Town of Linyi County to the west, and Yang’an Town to the north. It is 35 kilometers away from downtown Laoling. Provincial Highway 248 runs through the entire town, and the Jilu Expressway and the Delongyan Railway pass through it.
