Yucheng Tu Haihe Water Conservancy Scenic Area

Yucheng Tu Haihe Water Conservancy Scenic Area is recognized as a National Water Conservancy Scenic Area and a National Wetland Park.

The scenic area is located to the west of Yucheng’s main urban district and was built based on the comprehensive improvement project of the Tu Haihe River. Stretching 10.2 kilometers in length and covering an area of 3.6 square kilometers—with water bodies spanning 1.62 square kilometers—it is a wetland-type water conservancy scenic area.

The area boasts a crisscrossing network of waterways and is fully equipped with engineering structures such as sluices, dams, bridges, and culverts. It integrates multiple functions including flood control, irrigation, ecology, and tourism, achieving a perfect balance where irrigation and drainage functions remain unchanged, landscape effects are ever-evolving, and comprehensive benefits are fully realized. The first phase of the project involved an investment of 420 million yuan and resulted in key attractions such as “One River,” “Four Scenic Spots,” and “One Wetland.” “One River” refers to the Tu Haihe River, one of the three major waterways in northern Shandong, with a drainage area of 621 square kilometers. Both banks of the river are covered in lush greenery and boast ecological harmony. The “Yuwang Pavilion” Museum, built along the river, is a historic site related to the ancient legend of Yu the Great taming the floods. It is a national 3A-level tourist attraction and a provincial-level key cultural heritage protection unit. The “Four Scenic Spots” are four themed squares: Xia Capital Settlement, Following Heaven and Earth, Traces of Civilization, and Rhythm of the Times. Each square features distinct design styles and blends ancient and modern culture, promoting the spirit of Yu the Great and infusing Yucheng with cultural vitality. “One Wetland” is the Tu Haihe Artificial Wetland, covering an area of 0.53 square kilometers. It performs deep purification and multi-layered treatment of reclaimed water discharged from sewage treatment plants before releasing it back into the Tu Haihe River. This reflects the principle of “guiding water according to its natural flow” from the Yu the Great flood-control legacy, symbolizing successful water management, and guiding water to the sea. The wetland also offers functions such as water purification, landscaping, ecology, and recreation.
