The Hebei Sea Salt Museum is situated on the middle section of Bohai Road in Huanghua City, Hebei Province. Huanghua has a long history of salt production and has long enjoyed the advantage of being “a place where the benefits of fish and salt dominate the world.” It is the main production area of the Changlu Salt Field in Cangzhou, which is the largest sea salt production base in China, accounting for about one-quarter of the country's total sea salt output. The city also features the “nationally protected” Haifeng Town Ancient Salt-Making Site. Haifeng Town was the largest northern port during the Song and Jin dynasties and was once known for the bustling scene of “myriad cooking fires sending up smoke along the coast,” serving as a key base for salt production in the Changlu Salt Field.

The Hebei Sea Salt Museum features an antique-style architectural design with three floors. The courtyard is styled like a Suzhou garden, with pavilions and water features complementing each other, rockeries and bamboo adding charm, and winding corridors creating a serene and elegant environment. The exhibition halls cover an area of more than 2,000 square meters, and there is also an outdoor large interactive exhibition hall spanning 800 square meters.

The Hebei Sea Salt Museum is the first salt industry museum in Hebei Province and currently the most comprehensive one of its kind in China. The museum primarily showcases salt industry materials from across the country and is distinguished by “detailed content, artistic design, high-tech methods, interactive participation, and exquisite scenes.” It emphasizes scientific accuracy, humanistic value, and entertainment, combining education with fun. Supported by a variety of high-tech techniques, the museum vividly reconstructs the multi-layered cultural panorama of China’s salt production and the lives of salt workers that began over 4,000 years ago. The exhibitions display various types of salt — including sea salt, lake salt, and well/mineral salt — as well as content closely related to people’s daily lives. Through the use of 3D, animation, scene reconstructions, and other formats, combined with sound, light, and electric multimedia technologies, the museum highlights visual appeal and interactivity, reflecting high-tech, artistic, personalized, and human-centered design. With cultural relics as the main focus, supplemented by computer-printed graphics, light boxes, photographs, sculptures, scenes, models, film screenings, and multimedia, the museum makes appropriate use of modern materials and lighting effects to underscore the glorious achievements of China’s salt industry and demonstrate the vital role of salt in the national economy and people’s daily lives.
