The Huanghua Ancient Shell Ridge is one of the world’s three major ancient shell ridges and is located along the coastal area of Huanghua City. The Huanghua Ancient Shell Ridge consists of six shell ridges, covering a total area of 117 hectares, with the core zone spanning 10 hectares. It is situated south of Zhangjuhe Village and north of Houtangbao Village, serving as a key protected area. It is mainly composed of shells, spores, pollen, algae, foraminifera, ostracods, and other materials, making it a non-renewable resource. According to scientific research, the scale of development, time span, and the geological and paleoenvironmental information contained within these ancient shell ridges are rare in the world and hold significant importance in international Quaternary geological studies. They provide a natural baseline for studying ancient marine changes and environmental trends, offering important scientific value for scientific research, predicting future environmental change trends, and aiding governments at all levels in formulating regional economic development plans. In addition to its scientific research value, it also serves to protect against seawater intrusion caused by storm surges. Approved by the People's Government of Hebei Province on September 23, 1998, it was established as a marine nature reserve and is classified as a marine geological natural heritage site.
