Ruins of Haifeng Town

The ruins of Haifeng Town are a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The ruins of Haifeng Town are located between Haifeng Village and Yangzhuang Village in Yang’erzhuang Town, Huanghua City.

The site sits on a terrace that is high in the middle and gradually slopes downward toward the edges, with the highest central part being an east-west earthen ridge about 3 meters above the surrounding ground. The site stretches approximately 500 meters from north to south and 1,000 meters from east to west, covering an area of over 500,000 square meters, with abundant relics exposed in the strata. It was first discovered in 1986 during a county-wide cultural relics survey conducted by the Huanghua County Museum. Today, bricks, tiles, and ceramic shards are visible across the surface of the site, and continuous cultural layers are found along the exposed cliffs. The cultural layers in the main areas are 2–4 meters thick, making it a well-preserved ancient cultural site. Between 2000 and 2003, two excavations were carried out, uncovering a large number of ash pits and building foundations from the Jin Dynasty, along with a rich array of unearthed artifacts including pottery, porcelain, bone, stone, shell, jade, and glass objects. Ceramics dominate, many of which were produced by renowned kilns such as Ding, Jun, Cizhou, Jingxing, Yaozhou, Longquan, and Jingdezhen.

In 2006, the ruins of Haifeng Town, as an ancient site from the Jin Dynasty, were included in the sixth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units by the State Council.
