Hongfan Pool is located in the southwestern part of Pingyin County, Jinan, within Longchi Park at the government seat of Hongfan Pool Town. The name of the spring is taken from the "Great Transmission of the Book of Documents" (Zhou Shu? Hongfan Chapter), meaning "the flood is brought under control." Hongfan Pool is also known as Dragon Pool and is one of the Seventy-Two Famous Springs of Jinan.

Hongfan Pool, also known as Dragon Pool, is one of the Seventy-Two Famous Springs of Jinan. The name of the pool is derived from the "Book of Documents • Hongfan," taking its meaning from "the flood being brought under control." With a depth of 6 meters, the water is crystal clear to the bottom. Springs slowly seep from the pool bottom and surrounding walls, with a daily outflow of about 1,000 cubic meters. The spring water "does not fluctuate with drought or flood, nor vary in temperature between winter and summer." If you toss a coin into the water, it will float and spin like a beautiful butterfly, remaining buoyant for a long time without sinking. When sunlight hits it, the coin sparkles brilliantly, creating the marvelous sight of "Hongfan Floating Gold." This spring has excellent water quality and is one of the water sources used for producing authentic Ejiao (donkey-hide gelatin).

Due to the upward surge of the spring water and its buoyancy, coins tossed onto the surface will remain floating for a long time without sinking. "Hongfan Floating Gold" has thus become one of the area’s famous scenic sights. The spring water is of high quality and rich in minerals.

Transportation:

(1) Drive from downtown Jinan along Provincial Highway 220 — head southwest — pass through Changqing and Pingyin County, then drive southeast toward Dong’e Town to reach the destination.

(2) Take a long-distance bus from Jinan Long-Distance Bus Station to Pingyin (approximately every 40 minutes, fare 22 RMB). The journey takes about 3 hours. Then transfer to a local bus to Hongfan Town in Pingyin (about one bus per hour, journey time around 1 hour; fare 7 RMB).
