Hongfan White Goose Spring

White Goose Spring is located in Baiyan Village, about 2 kilometers north of Hongfanchi Town. The spring shares its name with the village. To the north of the village lies Longtou Mountain, with the spring situated on the southern slope of the mountain. The spring pool is lined with large stone slabs, measuring 5 meters in length, 4.7 meters in width, and 5 meters in depth. The water of White Goose Spring is of high quality, appearing emerald green, flowing year-round with a daily output of around 850 cubic meters. Villagers all draw this water for drinking. The water flows out from the mouth of a stone-carved dragon head on the southern wall of the pool into a small square basin, then into an irrigation channel to water fields and gardens.

Legend has it that when Emperor Guangwu of Han, Liu Xiu, was leading his troops through this area during a severe summer heatwave, his soldiers suffered from extreme thirst and could not find water anywhere. At that moment, Liu Xiu suddenly noticed a flock of white geese descending at the foot of Longtou Mountain. The Emperor said, “Where those white geese landed, there must be a spring.” He then ordered a soldier to check, and indeed, a gushing spring was found right there. The soldiers rushed over and drank to their hearts’ content. Later, people named the spring “White Goose Spring.”
