Dongxin Site

The Dongxin Site is a cultural heritage conservation unit of Shandong Province.

The Dongxin Site (a late Shang to Han–Tang dynasty village site) is located 200 meters south of Dongxin Village in Huairen Town, 500 meters south of the ancient Shahe River, and 15 kilometers from Shanghe County. The existing site rises about 4.9 meters above the ground, measuring 30 meters north-south and 27 meters east-west, covering an area of 810 square meters — approximately one-third of the original size. Artifacts unearthed from the site include four types: bronze ware, stone tools, bone and shell artifacts, and pottery. According to experts from the provincial cultural relics authority, the lowest cultural layer of the site belongs to the late Shang period, is 1.8 meters thick, the middle layer corresponds to the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, and the upper layer relates to the Han and Tang dynasties. It is a village site dating from the Shang dynasty to the Qin and Han periods.

Dongxin Village: Located in the northern part of Huairen Town, Dongxin Village covers a land area of 117 hectares and has a population of 988 people. The villagers are descendants of immigrants who moved here from Shouguang County during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties.

Commonly known as “the Tomb of the Great King,” the Dongxin Site is located 200 meters south of the village, 500 meters south of the ancient Shahe River, and 15 kilometers from Shanghe County town. The surrounding area of the Dongxin Site spans 20,000 square meters, with the current site rising 4.9 meters above the ground, measuring 30 meters north-south and 27 meters east-west.
