The Shanghe Guzi Yangge, infused with the spiritual essence of the Mount Tai–Bohai region and the charm of the Yellow River, has been passed down through generations, boasting a long and rich history. In Shanghe County, every village has its own yangge team, and everyone is a performer—from those as old as ninety-nine to toddlers taking their first steps. It’s said that once you can walk, you can dance. Recognized by the Ministry of Culture as the “Hometown of Chinese Folk Dance Art,” the Guzi Yangge Square and the County Public Fitness Center serve as key performance venues in the county town. During the Spring Festival and Lantern Festival, visitors to Shanghe can enjoy a diverse array of performances everywhere they go. The drum, umbrella, stick, and flower dances take on countless vivid forms, while stilt-walking and dry-boat performances come in a dazzling variety, leaving spectators in awe. The “scout horse” acts as the liaison for village-to-village performances; once it departs, the drum troupes arrive, their thunderous beats rolling in like spring thunder.
