Dongwenqiao Site

The Dongwenqiao Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Shang Dynasty Dongwenqiao Site is located north of Dongwenqiao in Yuhuangmiao Town, covering an area of 400×600 meters. Artifacts such as bronze ware and pottery have been unearthed here. The site dates back to the Shang and Zhou dynasties.

In 2013, the Dongwenqiao Site was designated by the People’s Government of Shandong Province as part of the fourth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units.

Historical Development

In 1934, Shanghe County was divided into 9 districts, 6 towns, and 73 townships, with Yuhuangmiao belonging to the fifth district, whose administrative office was located in Yuhuangmiao. The fifth district governed 1 town and 9 townships, with the “1 town” being Yuhuangmiao Town. In November 1945, the Shanghe County Committee of the Communist Party decided to establish the Yuhuangmiao District Committee, headquartered in Yuhuangmiao. In March 1958, the county adjusted its administrative divisions and established Yuhuangmiao Township. In January 1960, it was changed to Yuhuangmiao Commune. In March 1984, the Yuhuangmiao Commune was restructured into Yuhuangmiao Town, as it remains today.
