The Liangjia Han Tombs

The Liangjia Han Tombs are a cultural heritage site protected by Shandong Province.

The Shuhe Liangjia Han Tombs are located south of Liangjia Village on the north bank of the Dasha River. These are among the few ancient tombs in Shanghe that have undergone archaeological excavation.

In June 2005, construction workers discovered ancient tombs at the Liangjia section of the Fumin Water Conservancy Project along the ancient Shuhe River. After on-site investigation by archaeological experts, it was confirmed to be a large-scale Han Dynasty tomb complex, with one-third located within the ancient Shuhe River channel. To accommodate the engineering project, the Jinan Municipal Institute of Archaeology and the Shanghe County Cultural Relics Management Office formed a joint archaeological team to conduct rescue excavations on the portion of the tombs situated in the ancient Shuhe River channel.

Based on the structure, layout, artifacts, and the size of the tomb bricks, these tombs date from the late Western Han to the early Eastern Han Dynasties. Given the relatively concentrated distribution of the tombs, their small scale, and the prevalence of pottery burial objects, this tomb complex is believed to be a family burial ground for commoners. The excavation data provides important insights for further research into the production, lifestyle, craftsmanship, ideology, as well as burial systems and customs of the people in the Shanghe area during that period.

In 2013, the Liangjia Han Tombs were designated as part of the fourth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People's Government of Shandong Province.
