Introduction: The hometown of Jiang Taigong is located about 15 kilometers northwest of the city center. On the third day of the eighth lunar month in 1210 BC, Jiang Taigong was born in Lü Village, Taigongquan, Weihui. Also known as Lü Taigong, his given name was Shang, courtesy name Ziya, and alias Flying Bear. He was a renowned statesman and military strategist during China’s Western Zhou Dynasty. This historically legendary figure has many recorded names—for instance, the “Ten Supplements and Corrections to Various Tables in Records of the Grand Historian and Book of Han” lists such variations as Taigongwang, Lüwang, Zhouwang, Lüya, Lüshang, Jiangwang, Wangshang, Shiwang, Jianggong, Jianglao, and Lü. The hometown of Jiang Taigong was originally a large settlement of the Jiang clan. A Tang Dynasty tombstone unearthed in Taigongquan in 1995 records that Taigongquan was originally called “Jiangyuan.” According to the Bamboo Annals, Jiang Taigong passed away on the twentieth day of the tenth lunar month in the sixth year of King Kang of Zhou, at the age of 139. He was buried in Taigongquan, Weihui. To this day, the area around Taigongquan still preserves many historical relics related to Jiang Taigong, including the notable ones such as Jiang Taigong’s Tomb, Jiang Taigong’s Ancestral Hall, Jiang Taigong’s Temple, and the Jiang Taigong-Lüwang Stele.
