Twin Mounds Han Tombs

The Twin Mounds Han Tombs are a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.

Twin Mounds Han Tombs. Located northeast of Shuangzhong Village in Jizhou Town and 5.2 kilometers south of the municipal government seat. There are two mounds, about 50 meters apart from front to back, each 6 meters high, with connected bases. They stretch 150 meters from north to south and 100 meters from east to west, covering an area of approximately 6 mu. The two ancient mounds are named “Twin Mounds” because they are connected.

There were originally two large halls on the top of the mounds, one to the north and one to the south, though only fragments of rope-patterned Han dynasty tiles remain today. In the early years of the Republic of China, a collapse occurred on the top of the mounds, and a brick-arched gate was discovered at the northwest corner, which was later sealed with earth.

According to the Book of Zhou: “Qi’s Prince of Rencheng ?? and Prince of Guangning Xiaoheng, among others, held Xindu with tens of thousands of troops. Emperor Gao issued an edict for Xian to campaign against them. Upon arriving at Xindu, Xian deployed his forces south of the city and climbed onto the tomb of Zhang Er to observe the enemy.” It is inferred from this that the tomb climbed by Xian may have been the Twin Mounds.

These mounds are now a key cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.
