Liangzhuang Town Featured Melon and Vegetable Garden

Liangzhuang Town is bordered by Culai Mountain to the north and the Chaiwen River to the south, covering an area of 140.9 square kilometers. It is the birthplace of the Anti-Japanese Armed Uprising in Culai Mountain and home to the Culai Mountain National Forest Park. As part of the Dawenkou cultural region, it boasts a long and civilized history and a simple, honest folk culture. Due to the significant elevation difference between the vast, flat southern plains and Culai Mountain, it has formed unique climatic conditions here: large diurnal temperature variations and high accumulated temperatures, which produce high-quality, delicious, and nutrient-rich melons and vegetables. Out of 92,000 mu of arable land, 65,000 mu are dedicated to melons and vegetables, earning it the title “China’s No. 1 Vegetable Town.” In recent years, governments at all levels have organized residents to leverage these unique climatic conditions to vigorously develop vegetable cultivation, resulting in tens of thousands of mu of vegetable greenhouses. Upon entering Liangzhuang Town, endless rows of vegetable greenhouses come into view, resembling a “sea of greenhouses in a snowy field.” The greenhouses along the roads are densely packed, stretching for dozens of miles, brimming with vitality within.

Currently, the Liangzhuang Town Featured Melon and Vegetable Garden has a total of 5,000 melon and vegetable greenhouses and 60,000 various types of arch sheds, offering over 160 varieties across more than 50 series. All melons and vegetables produced in the Liangzhuang Featured Melon and Vegetable Garden are green food products, including nine types—spinach, zucchini, celery, garlic sprouts, bell peppers, cilantro, green beans, and watermelon—all certified by the China Green Food Development Center. Over the years, the Liangzhuang melon and vegetable gardens have not only maintained a pollution-free and excellent production environment but have also consistently adhered to standardized production practices to ensure the consistent quality of their produce.

The melons and vegetables from Liangzhuang are not only continuously distributed to other regions through the Beisong Vegetable Wholesale Market but have also attracted numerous tourists for visits. In 2007, the Liangzhuang Featured Melon and Vegetable Garden was designated as a “Provincial Agricultural Tourism Demonstration Site.” Here, visitors can admire novel, unique, premium-quality melons and vegetables, participate in self-picking and tasting at designated areas, engage in farm work to experience the toil, or even cook in a farmhouse kitchen to enjoy the pleasures of rural cuisine.

Our town actively develops around the Provincial Agricultural Tourism Demonstration Site, highlighting three major features. 1. Vegetable Features. Liangzhuang Town has 65,000 mu of melon and vegetable cultivation, 5,000 standard vegetable greenhouses, and over 60,000 various sizes of arch sheds; there are over 200 varieties across more than 40 series of melon and vegetable types; the Beisong Vegetable Wholesale Market is large in scale, relatively standardized, and full of highlights. Vegetable-themed picking and sightseeing tourism is developed around this focus. 2. Cultural Features. Liangzhuang Town is a revolutionary base area and the birthplace of the Anti-Japanese Armed Uprising in Culai Mountain. It is home to the Dongliangzhuang Anti-Japanese Memorial Monument and the Shanyang North Temple—the site where the first shot of the Culai Mountain Anti-Japanese Armed Uprising was fired—making it an ideal place for revolutionary tradition education. 3. Natural Features. Located at the southern foot of Culai Mountain, Liangzhuang Town features numerous scenic spots in its mountainous areas, beautiful landscapes, dense forests, and a pleasant climate, making it suitable for the development of sightseeing and leisure tourism.

Three tourist routes are planned. One route runs from Maozi to the Huangshiyá Folk Village tourism line, another from Shanyang to the Miaozhi Zhuxi Scenic Area, and the third is a melon and vegetable picking and agricultural sightseeing route in the vegetable-growing district.
