Qiaogou Village

Qiaogou Village is located in the western part of Culai Town, bordering the Dawen River to the west and leaning against Culai Mountain to the east. It is the birthplace of the Taishan Shigandang culture and the hometown of Shi Jie, a renowned Neo-Confucian scholar and literary figure from the early Song Dynasty. The village was established during the Song Dynasty. Originally, there was a small stream running through the village with a bridge over it, hence the name "Qiaogou" (Bridge Valley). The village has a total of 581 households and 1,981 residents. The arable land area is 2,129 mu, with a per capita arable land area of 1.07 mu, and forested mountain area of 180 mu. Qiaogou Village boasts a long history, rich cultural resources, and abundant geothermal resources. In 2011, the village passed the evaluation as a Shandong Province Tourism Characteristic Village.

I. Cultural Resources

Qiaogou Village in Culai Town is the hometown of "Shigandang" and the birthplace of the "Taishan Shigandang" culture. Shi Jie, a prominent Neo-Confucian scholar from the early Song Dynasty, was born here and authored the 20-volume "Culai Collection," which is included in the "Complete Library of the Four Treasuries."

II. Geothermal Resources

Qiaogou Hot Spring is a natural hot spring formed by tectonic fractures, with abundant geothermal resources. Since the 1970s, villagers in Qiaogou have utilized these geothermal resources to farm tropical fish. In recent years, under the correct leadership of the town’s Party committee and government, to fully leverage the advantages of geothermal resources, Qiaogou Village introduced the Tai Mountain Hot Spring International Conference Tourism & Culture Scenic Area project, with an investment of 2.6 billion yuan. Built to national 4A-level tourist attraction standards, the comprehensive scenic area integrates multiple functions including hot spring wellness, leisure vacation, business conferences, health and entertainment, and eco-tourism. The first phase of the project commenced operations in June 2012, and in 2012 it was successively rated as a National 4A-level Scenic Area, one of China’s Top Ten Hot Springs, and China’s Premier Mountain Forest Hot Spring.

III. Culai Mountain Ski Resort

The Culai Mountain Ski Resort covers an area of 120 mu, with an annual reception capacity of 20,000 visitors and projected annual revenue of 2 million yuan. The project was put into use on December 28, 2008, and officially opened to tourists on December 29. This project not only possesses strong market competitiveness and broad prospects but also helps elevate the grade and quality of tourism at Culai Mountain. It fills a gap in Tai’an City’s tourism offerings and addresses the lack of winter tourism activities in the city. To mitigate the seasonality of the ski resort and make full use of existing resources, the Culai Mountain Ski Resort plans to develop spring, summer, and autumn tourism programs, adding new attractions such as grass skiing, CS forest combat games, outdoor adventure training, fishing, a specialty food suspension bridge, and a slide (dry land sledding). It is believed that with continuous improvements to the Culai Ski Resort, it will make significant contributions to promoting winter tourism in Tai’an City and developing the local ski industry.
