Tianping Lake

Tianping Lake is a National Water Conservancy Scenic Area.

Tianping Lake is located in Daiyue District, Tai'an City. It was built in the 1960s and was initially named "Dahe Reservoir," also known as "Dai Lake." Tai Shan University is situated to its north. In recent years, with urban development and the growth of tourism, the Tai'an Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government renamed it "Tianping Lake." The lake collects the water systems of several river basins in the western part of Mount Tai into one reservoir, with a total storage capacity of about 50 million cubic meters. For over forty years, it has primarily served flood control and irrigation functions.

As one of the main scenic areas in the development of Mount Tai tourism, the area has begun to take shape. In the future, Tianping Lake will focus on new functions such as tourism, power generation, and urban water supply.

Tianping Lake Park covers an area of 700 mu, including 300 mu of land. The park was built around the Tai'an Pumped Storage Power Station and in conjunction with the reinforcement and renovation project of the reservoir dam. The first phase of the project invested 160 million yuan, covering an area of over 300,000 square meters.

The park is planned to have five functional areas: a water activity center, lakeside recreation zone, dam top plaza area, area behind the dam park, and office service area. A 120-meter-long Water Culture Art Corridor is planned on the top of the auxiliary dam, featuring reliefs that depict major events and important figures in the history of water conservancy in China—from Yu the Great to Li Bing, from the Three Gorges Dam to the Xiaolangdi Reservoir, and from Shandong’s water conservancy to Tai'an’s—offering a panoramic view of the long-standing and profound heritage of Chinese water culture.
