Zhangba Martyrs' Cemetery

Zhangba Martyrs' Cemetery is a cultural relic protection unit of Liaocheng City and a classic red tourism attraction.

Also known as the Northwestern Shandong Martyrs' Cemetery, it is located in the northwest corner of Dongzhangba Village, Dawangzhai Township. Built in 1945, it covers an area of about 100 acres and is the largest revolutionary martyrs' cemetery in Liaocheng City. It stretches 240 meters from north to south and 170 meters from east to west. The cemetery faces south and consists of a gatehouse, memorial tower, memorial hall, and martyrs' tombs. The gatehouse is designed in a classical architectural style. The memorial tower stands 16 meters tall, has an octagonal shape on all four sides, and features a pavilion-style design, covering a construction area of 100 square meters. The second level of the tower is inlaid with eight stone steles inscribed with eulogies handwritten by the then party, government, and military leaders of the Jin-Ji-Lu-Yu Border Region, as well as a list of 925 martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the revolution — including three division-level officers, ten regiment-level officers, six battalion-level officers, nine company-level officers, 102 platoon-level officers, and 643 squad leaders and soldiers. The memorial hall displays elegiac couplets handwritten by Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, and Zhu De, along with photographs and stories of some of the martyrs.

Yi Yin (circa early 17th century BC), also known as Yi or Zhi, with the title A Heng. A native of Shen (present-day Shen County, Shandong Province) during the Shang Dynasty. He is China’s earliest known gastronome and the originator of herbal decoction medicine. Yi Yin first farmed in the fields of Shen, then became a chef. It is said that he once carried a tripod and chopping board, promoting his culinary skills to persuade Tang of Shang.
