United Nations 2606 Plain Forest Resort

The United Nations 2606 Plain Forest Resort is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

The United Nations 2606 Project Plain Forest Ecological Area was established on the basis of the state-owned Maxi Forest Farm in Shenxian County. The Maxi Forest Farm is located in the northwest of Shenxian County, west of the Maxi River, at the junction of Hebei, Shandong, and Henan provinces. The farm stretches 6 km from north to south and 1.2 km from east to west, covering a total management area of 10,912.9 mu. It is divided into 7 forestry management areas and 49 compartments, with a forested area of 9,000 mu, including 8,500 mu of protective forest and 500 mu of economic forest. The total standing timber volume is 40,000 cubic meters, and the forest coverage rate reaches 90%. It has not only delivered significant benefits in windbreak and sand control, climate improvement, and boosting agricultural yields, but also provided society with a large amount of forest products. Meanwhile, the area’s abundant forest resources, large scale, good forest stand, and diverse landscapes have made it especially popular in summer, when dense shade covers the ground, green canopies stretch over the sky, the air is fresh and cool, and the environment is pleasant—earning it the nickname “Maxi Oasis.”

Historically, the abandoned course of the Yellow River within Shenxian County formed undulating sand dunes and deserts, which posed serious sandstorm hazards. In the early 1950s, the state-owned Wangfeng Nursery (later renamed the state-owned Maxi Forest Farm in Shenxian County) was established. In 1962, with the approval of the Provincial People's Committee, the nursery was renamed the state-owned Wangfeng Forest Farm, covering an area of 2,907.9 mu. To further manage the sandy wasteland and improve the ecological environment, in July 1980, in accordance with the Opinion on the Approval of the Expansion Plan for the State-owned Wangfeng Forest Farm ([80] Lu Ji Ji Zi No. 291) issued by the Provincial Planning Commission, an additional 8,005 mu of sandy wasteland was acquired from surrounding villages, expanding the land area to 10,912.9 mu. Tree planting and sand control efforts then commenced.

In 1982, the World Food Programme invested 20 million US dollars to establish the 2606 Project Forest in four townships west of the Majia River, based on the Maxi Forest Farm, with a afforestation area of over 110,000 mu.

Centered around the theme of the “United Nations 2606 Project Forest,” and with market positioning focused on “Maxi Forest Farm Hot Spring Resort” and “Forest Farm Leisure and Entertainment,” the development closely integrates the structure of the forest farm and the characteristics of the hot springs to promote experiential and leisure tourism. It creates a distinctive “hot spring + forest ecological tour” experience. Seven functional zones are planned for construction: the resort hotel zone, the hot spring pool villa zone, the eco-agricultural tourism zone (picking area), the grass skiing sports zone, the jungle activity zone, the creative forest resort zone, and the golf driving range and lawn bowling activity zone.
