The Glazed Well is located in Gujing Village, about 7 li southeast of Guancheng Town. The upper half of the well shaft is entirely built with blue bricks, while the part above and below the water level is made up of hard, stone-like, mirror-smooth glazed nodules. Whenever an object strikes the water, it emits a humming sound like a bronze bell. In years of severe drought, when other wells dry up completely, this well never runs low on water and remains particularly sweet and refreshing. Legend has it that in ancient times, a family surnamed Zhang moved here with their wife and children to escape exploitation by local officials and wealthy landlords. During severe droughts, they had difficulty accessing drinking water. To solve this, the Zhang’s daughter, Cuiyu, often knelt and prayed to the Moon Goddess Chang’e for help. Guided by the goddess, she collected 10 purple-flowered redbud branches from Yunfeng Mountain, burned them in the well, and soon the flowing sand at the bottom became as hard as stone and as shiny as a mirror, while clear spring water gushed up from the base. Before all the redbud branches were burned, an old mountain guard from Yunfeng Mountain arrived, extinguished the fire, took away the branches, leaving the well in its current form.
