Jinxian Filial Piety Archway

The Jinxian Filial Piety Archway is a cultural heritage protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Jinxian Filial Piety Archway is located on Qingzhen Street in Jinxian Town, Jinxian County. It dates back to the Qing Dynasty. On December 7, 2006, it was designated as part of the third batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units by the People's Government of Shandong Province.

The Filial Piety Archway is situated at the south end of Qingzhen Street in Jinxian Town, on the east side of the road. It was first built in the 28th year of the Daoguang reign during the Qing Dynasty as a “commended filial piety” memorial archway erected by Zhou, the wife of Li Shipin, a local scholar. The main structure stands 11 meters tall and is 6 meters wide.

The main structure of the archway is divided into five sections. From top to bottom: the first section features a carving of cranes and peonies, with blooming peony flowers and flying cranes; the second section displays four large characters “Commended Filial Piety” written in bold regular script; the third section is carved with figures in pavilions, exquisitely detailed and lifelike; the fourth section is inscribed with “Filial Piety Archway of Zhou, Wife of Scholar Li Shipin”; the fifth section depicts a “two dragons playing with a pearl” design. The two side pillars are adorned with cloud patterns and crane motifs. The main body of the archway remains relatively intact, but the flying eaves on both sides and the stone lions flanking it have been damaged.
