Yangshan Battle Memorial Site

The Yangshan Battle Memorial Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Yangshan Battle Memorial Site is located in Yangshan Town, Jinxiang County. From July 10 to 28, 1947, Liu Bocheng and Deng Xiaoping led the Shanxi-Hebei-Shandong-Henan Field Army in a bold breakthrough of the Yellow River’s natural defenses, launching the famous Southwestern Shandong Campaign here. Among its battles, the Yangshan Battle was the most critical and fiercest engagement of the campaign. It led to the capture of 9,228 enemy troops, including Major General Song Ruike, commander of the defending 66th Division on the mountaintop, and the annihilation of 23,452 Nationalist soldiers. The victory in the Yangshan Battle paved the way for the People's Liberation Army to advance into Central China, march into the Dabie Mountains, and bring the war to the territory controlled by the Kuomintang. It marked the beginning of the PLA’s strategic shift from defense to offense, signifying a major turning point in the Chinese People’s War of Liberation and creating favorable conditions for achieving national victory.

On June 12, 1992, it was designated as a Cultural Relic Protection Unit of Shandong Province by the People’s Government of Shandong Province. In October 2019, it was included in the eighth batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level.
