Luoshan is a famous mountain located at the border of Fengcheng and Chongren in Jiangxi Province, and is the second highest peak in Chongren County. The main peak, Laoxian Peak, covers an area of 88 square kilometers, with an elevation of 962 meters, and is situated 5 kilometers northwest of Liufang Village in Sanshan Township. During the Jin Dynasty, Luo Wentong from Nanchang Commandery was repeatedly invited by the imperial court to take up official positions, but he courteously declined. He traveled over 200 li in search of the Dao, eventually settling in Chishan to live in seclusion and cultivate the Dao. There, he accepted many disciples and taught them Daoist scriptures, earning their deep love and respect. After Luo Wentong passed away due to illness, his disciples, in memory of their master, named the mountain after his surname, changing it to Luoshan. Due to its towering height and the constant presence of clouds and mist, the mountain is poetically described as: “Flowers smile within the fog, villages stand amid the clouds.” Hence, Luoshan is also known as “Mist Mountain.” Here, the landscape is picturesque, with cultural heritage, historic sites, temples, and natural scenery complementing one another beautifully.

The ancient architecture on the main peak of Luoshan includes the “Chenmu Hall of Daluoshan,” along with the subsequently built “Guanyin Hall” and “Xu Zhenjun Hall,” accompanied by living quarters, a kitchen, and a fortune-telling room. The buildings feature an ancient style, are majestic and magnificent. Legend has it that Guanyin was a guest of Chenmu, and Xu Xun was her disciple. The surrounding mountain area is embraced by a cluster of peaks, featuring a three-tiered hundred-zhang waterfall, a winding stream, and a cliffside water curtain and incense burner, which flow year-round. To the southwest of the mountain lies a natural rock formation that juts out from the mountain, known as “Xiugu Flying Rock,” with a flat top covering over 10 square meters. Other attractions include Thunder God Platform, Immortal Kitchen, Grandmother-and-Grandchild Peak, “Oushi Rock,” and “Immortal Cave.” On the mountain stands the “Chenmu Hall of Daluoshan” temple, located about one li from the main peak. It was built during the Song Dynasty and renovated in the second year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1737). On the southern mountainside is the “Qingyun Temple,” where a statue of Goddess Chenmu is enshrined. Luoshan is also rich in high-quality local specialties, among which Luoshan tea, ginger, and fermented tofu are renowned both domestically and internationally as the “Three Treasures of Luoshan.”
