Jiulong Lake is a national wetland park.

The Jiulong Lake Scenic Area is located 8 kilometers from the suburbs of Zixi County. It originates from the northern foothills of Fengxing Mountain in Guangze County, Fujian Province, and belongs to the Xin River water system. The Jiulong Lake reservoir area stretches 13 kilometers. Viewed from above, nine mountain ridges resemble nine dragons coiled among the hills and forests, hence the name. The waters of Jiulong Lake take on a graceful charm from the surrounding mountains, winding along the contours of the land. The mountains come alive with the flowing water, while the lush green forests nestle against the lively waters, exuding even greater vitality. Viewed from the water, every hill, ravine, tree, and rock is transformed under the ripples, with the colors of vegetation blending into the lake, creating a harmonious interplay between mountain and water—truly living up to its reputation as the “Nine-Turn brocade stream, Ten-Mile painted corridor.”

Zixi County is located at the border of Fujian and Jiangxi provinces, with a forest coverage rate of 87.1%, making it a national ecological demonstration zone. In recent years, the people of Zixi have placed increasing emphasis on ecological protection, with widespread tree planting and afforestation efforts. This strong environmental awareness has helped optimize the natural surroundings. The Jiulong Lake Ecological Protection Zone boasts beautiful scenery, surrounded by dense forests and abundant plant life. Winter temperatures generally do not fall below minus 2°C, attracting an increasing number of migratory birds to overwinter here. Numerous small birds inhabit the bays among the islands stretching from Laiwang Ridge to Longhan.

Resembling nine dragons coiled among the hills and forests, hence the name. Taking a boat tour, you will surely marvel at how it seems like a heavenly fairyland has descended to earth. In spring, light mist and rosy clouds shroud the hazy mountains; in summer, the emerald waters mirror the blue peaks; in autumn, the forests are painted in layers of color, like poetry and painting; in winter, frost flowers bloom in wild beauty, offering a serene and rustic charm. On clear, sunny days, two or three cranes may be seen soaring through the clouds, or lines of geese flying in formation. As fishing boats return at dusk, the scene of “a thousand white birds in flight, the sun setting behind a crimson wheel” reveals breathtaking beauty.

Jiulong Lake is an eco-tourism resort characterized by its layered green peaks and exquisite waterscape, integrating marvelous natural scenery and cultural-historical heritage. It primarily offers sightseeing, leisure vacations, outdoor training and exploration, as well as Buddhist pilgrimage experiences. The planned development includes four zones: the Sightseeing Zone, Leisure Vacation Zone, Outdoor Training Zone, and Tourism Service Zone.
